The Requirements

The ideal candidate for the Director of Sales and Marketing opportunity will have in depth knowledge of marketing, advertising, promotions and group sales, alongside knowledge of the local area and/or strong ties to the Midwest.

To be a strong fit for the role, you will need:
  • A bachelor’s degree in Marketing and/or Sales, Advertising, Communications or a related field (preferred), or the equivalent combination of education and outstanding experience

  • An aptitude for customer service and the ability to handle high-pressure situations while meeting the demands of constant deadlines and changing priorities

  • Strong leadership skills; a backgound in training/coaching is an advantage
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication abilities with strong interpersonal and presentation skills
  • Excellent computer skills including MS Office applications (Word, Excel and PowerPoint); CRM experience is a plus
  • Strong project management, time management, organization, and record keeping skills
  • P&L experience and the ability to manage a budget

The park is open to the public from Memorial Day through Labor Day, with additional pre- and/or post- dates being added depending upon weather, demand and special events. Hours are heavy during the season and it will not be uncommon for you to work from opening to close up to six days a week. In the off-season you’ll be able to work shorter hours, take vacation, floating holidays, etc.

The Role

Reporting to the General Manager, as Director of Sales and Marketing, you will be responsible for developing and executing all aspects of the Marketing and Group Sales programs in order to drive ticket sales and increased revenue. You will focus on growing group sales, consignments and catered outings in schools, businesses, and outer market business, as well as on building, promoting and protecting our brand online, in print and in the community. 

Upon joining us, you will learn and understand our park, business and operational needs in order to effectively create and execute a sales plan, as well as marketing programs and activities that will create excitement around the park and increase sales revenue. You’ll manage a Sales and Marketing Team, including our full-time Group Sales Manager and four part-time seasonal sales associates. You will help develop your team through coaching and training activities, such as attending sales calls, while also bringing in revenue through your individual efforts.    

Specifically, your responsibilities will include:

Sales
  • Developing partnerships with local and regional media partners to develop events
  • Proactively prospecting, soliciting, and closing advance ticket sales programs by setting appointments, calling/emailing prospects, and securing group bookings and ticket sales opportunities with youth groups, churches and various organizations
  • Managing the Group Sales Manager and seasonal Group Sales staff responsible for booking company catered outings, school groups, youth groups, special events and birthday parties
  • Professionally representing and marketing the facility at industry meetings, tradeshows and off-site events
  • Understanding and creating reports to track/monitor attendance and revenue trends
  • Staying visible onsite and helping promote and manage sales events executed during the season 
Marketing
  • Managing the advertising schedule in conjunction with our advertising agency
  • Managing the marketing expense budget and following corporate purchasing procedures
  • Participating in the creation of sales collateral in conjunction with our advertising agency

Keys to Success

To be successful at Noah’s Ark and within Palace Entertainment, you should be a team player with a professional and pleasant disposition who can drive success and bring people to the park. The Group Sales Team is responsible for 30% of attendance, so you’ll need to be creative and dedicated to finding the best ways to increase patronage. You'll also need skill in developing and motivating your team. Once the patrons are in the park, you’ll be a visible ambassador at events, ensuring an outstanding experience and promoting repeat/expanded business.
 
Beyond your direct sales efforts, you’ll also need a rounded marketing skill set. You’ll be responsible for an extensive marketing plan, budget and brand (you’ll delve into the marketing plan and budget early on). Social media is key and you’ll need the skill to increase our digital footprint.
